The Romans Project

What is the Romans Project:

altImagine the impact of well trained pastors throughout Asia and Africa equipping their congregations. The Romans Project provides a unique opportunity for Christians in America to reach beyond local, everyday life...to encourage fellow Christians around the world in a very practical, life-impacting way. We challenge pastors to give themselves to the study of the book of Romans by committing to read the book of Romans twenty times and copying the entire book into a notebook, word for word. Upon completion, each pastor is given a Mp3 player that contains Scott Gilchrist's complete exposition of Romans – over one hundred messages. We hope to expand as the Lord provides opportunity and resources.

Our Ultimate Goal:

To assist pastors to become authentic and godly men, filled with the Word of God, walking in the truth, being godly examples, and expounding the Word clearly and accurately in training their people to become godly men, women, and children of the Word, - to the glory of God.

How the Romans Project is Working:

altAs we have challenged pastors throughout Liberia, Sierra Leon and Nigeria to involve themselves in this project, the response has been very heartening. We have nearly 3,000 pastors involved. Many have already received their Mp3 players and are eagerly listening to the 109 expository messages on Romans. Many others have completed the reading and copying and are awaiting the next shipment of players. Others are still "qualifying" for a player by the repeated reading of Romans. All are experiencing the joy and blessing of giving themselves to God's Word in this way. Imagine the impact on their lives and ministries as they are able to become well grounded in the gospel as they understand more clearly the book of Romans.

In Their Words:

altI am delighted to have these messages and combining the repeated reading with listening to the messages from Scott is giving me much understanding. I am gaining a complete picture of the Christian faith. The messages and the language are so clear that I listen and feel like Scott is standing right in front of me. This is helping me so much in my preparations to preach to my congregation each week. Please send my greetings and love to Pastor Scott.
-Theophilus, Pastor in Monrovia (Liberia)

The messages are so great. I am enjoying the time of teaching and I am learning new things. Thanks to those who are working on this project. This will help pastors to really begin to understand the Word of God.
-Alfred Varney, Missions Chairman for ECUL (Evangelical Church Union of Liberia)

I am having a wonderful time reading Romans 20 times. It is a great spiritual experience for me. It is so encouraging, reading and playing the messages of the book (Romans). I am enjoying it so much, and am teaching it in my church in a Bible study. When I get up in the morning I read and at night time I read and any other time I can get, I am reading Romans. I am also encouraging the people of my church to be reading it. Pray this program will be available for many others. Every where I go, people see me with the earphones in and ask me about it. I tell them all about it and how wonderful it is.
-Pastor Moses, a lead pastor in ECUL (Evangelical Church Union of Liberia)

How It All Began:

altSeveral years ago, John Corey, a long time friend of Downtown Bible Class and life-long missionary to Africa, contacted us with an appeal to broadcast in Liberia, West Africa. During his years of labor in Liberia, John saw a growing need for biblical teaching and training of Liberian pastors. By God's grace, in 2004, we were able to launch DBC-Liberia! We now have broadcasts in Ghana, Uganda and Sudan. In 2005, John began taking Mp3 players with expository Bible messages on them to Liberia. Founded on the principles of Deuteronomy 17:18-20, John encouraged Liberian pastors to read the book of Romans 20 times and copy the entire book into a notebook word for word. Upon completion, each pastor was given an Mp3 player containing 109 DBC messages from the book of Romans, over 80 hours of verse by verse exposition of this book that is sometimes called "The Constitution of Christianity". In addition, teaching from several other DBC book series was also included, reaching a total of over 400 expository Bible messages. We are thrilled that thousands of pastors have now received an Mp3 player from The Romans Project. Amazingly, all this can be done for $25 per delivered player.

What's Next?

Through God's blessing, opportunities for expansion of The Romans Project are growing. It is now possible for us to send Mp3 players filled with Bible messages throughout Africa, and into India and other English-speaking countries in regions where pastors are hungry for God's Word. A local missionary recently took 50 filled Mp3 players to pastors in India where church leaders do not have access to biblical training or resources.

How Can I Help?

Please pray:

  • for the nearly 3,000 pastors who have already been touched by The Romans Project.
  • for the expansion of The Romans Project.
  • for John Corey and his work within Africa.
  • for the financial resources needed.
  • that God's Word will penetrate the hearts and minds of those who hear.
  • that God will be glorified throughout the whole process

Please prayerfully consider partnering with us financially:

  • $25 will cover the cost of one delivered Mp3 player.
  • $250 will allow us to equip 10 pastors with Mp3 players.
  • $2500 will reach 100 pastors and 100 congregations.
